What's in a name?

Yue means 'her joyous mood', and Lu means 'that she is sparkling and bright like the rain and dew'. How beautiful is that?! This is according to the information we have from the orphanage. From what we know, she was not left with anything. So, someone at the orphanage must have named her. We're hoping we can find out who that person is.

We are keeping Yue Lu's given name for now. Many families give their children an American name. Yue Lu's world is about to change, and this is one less change for her for now. If she decides later on that she wants an American name, then that is what we will do. Fortunately, her name is not too hard to pronounce.

There are so many Chinese characters for one word, and one word can mean so many things. Yue and Lu have so many meanings, and so many different characters. I had to search really hard to match her Chinese characters on mandarintools.com to hear the pronounciation of her name. Yue looks like You, but is really pronounced Yu-ah. Lu is just as it looks.

Her nickname is LuLu. In China, it is common to double one of the names, which means 'little' for a child. I'm sure I'll be calling her both LuLu and Yue Lu...or just Sunshine!
